Server Programmability
A mongos server asks the OS for its `hostname` and uses that as the name by which it will refer to itself in intracluster communications. In some situations this is inappropriate as the local `hostname` is not a name accessible from the other hosts in the cluster. So it has been requested that mongos provide some kind of parameter by which the effective hostname can be injected.
