It's quite possible that the work under this ticket could work correctly due to SERVER-58428. The owner of this ticket should verify this and if we can extend the post-multiplanned tree onto the multiplanned candidates then we can close this as "works as designed". Otherwise, we would need to ensure that this works for QSN trees that contain EqLookupNode.
