The task is to make the work from SERVER-73487 production-ready. As part of this, we do not expect to need to make major functionality changes that have not already been made as part of the work from SERVER-73487.

This work will be done under a server parameter so that we may analyze the performance difference with a long enough trend (1-2 months) to see if we want to commit to making the change.

We can A/B this by naively making a copy of the file(s) that are relevant, and switch to using the new or old copy based on the server parameter.
