After adapting awaitable_hello_metrics.js to use gRPC metrics when the connection was made over gRPC in SERVER-84471, I encountered a failure where the gRPC.streams.awaitingTopologyChanges metric was not getting updated when there were commands waiting, although the current & available metrics were updated.
