We want to make sure that the newly introduced lastWritten opTime and the oplog writer mechanism works with upgrade/downgrade.

Add a passthrough that periodically kills/shuts down/restarts nodes and switches the binary during the upgrade/downgrade process to ensure that we succeed or fail with an expected error.
