The CheckReplOplogs hook runs for ~80 minutes of machine time across all Evergreen tasks in a required patch build. Ancedotally while there have been some critical durability issues it has identified in the past, we haven't heard about more recent issues it has discovered. However these anecdotes don't give insight into the possibility where CheckReplOplogs fails in a patch build and successfully prevented a bug from being committed.
We should confirm or disprove this possibility using data from the buildbaron database. This can be achieved by querying for JavaScript assertion errors from the '*:CheckReplOplog" hook test cases across the last 1 year of patch builds. Depending on the findings it may be helpful to compare the order of magnitude of failures to the number of ValidateCollections failures observed in patch builds.
