Hello everyone,
We are excited to announce that we will be migrating our Evergreen static host distros to secure private data centers (IBM PowerPC and ZSeries) and AWS (MacOS) over the next few months. These migrations will greatly improve our security posture and allow us greater flexibility with resourcing and upgrades for these fleets.
TL;DR On November 29th all Evergreen static host distros - IBM ZSeries, IBM PowerPC, and MacOS - will be cut over to new fleets running in secure private data centers. While you do not need to take explicit action, we are strongly encouraging teams to patch test against these new fleets in advance. Early testing will help provide feedback on how the new fleets are operating and help everyone to work through bugs, possible omissions on the new distros, and task failures.
The distros being migrated (and their new distro equivalent are below):
Current Distro | New Distro | Availability |
macos-1014 (intel) | macos-1014-aws | Available now |
macos-1300-arm64 | macos-13-arm64 | Available now |
macos-1100 (intel) | macos-11 | Available now |
macos-1100-arm64 | macos-11-arm64 | Available now |
rhel71-power8 | rhel7-power9 | Targeting July 30th (DEVPROD-3535) |
rhel81-power8 | rhel8-power9 | Targeting July 30th (DEVPROD-3538) |
rhel72-zseries | rhel7-zseries | Targeting July 30th (DEVPROD-8385) |
rhel83-zseries | rhel8-zseries | Targeting July 30th (DEVPROD-8384) |
Where possible, we encourage using the latest available distro for your project. We are providing the below new fleets for these three architectures:
Distro | Availability |
macos-14 | Available now |
macos-14-arm64 | Available now |
rhel9-power9 | Targeting July 30th (DEVPROD-3539) |
rhel9-zseries-large / small | Available now (DEVPROD-8386) |
For context, this effort is enabled by these Runtime Environments Team led projects within the DevProd Platforms Group:
- Migrate MacOS fleets from MacStadium to AWS
- Migrate Power Hosts to New Cloud Data Center
