The Version Compatibility part of the manpage for mongodump was a bit vague so I am entering this ticket to be 100% sure.

Is it fully supported to use the mongodb 3.2.x tools - specifically mongodump - to backup a mongodb 2.6 instance? We are very interested to use the --gzip and --archive functionality now, before upgrading the server-side.

We have done basic tests and it seems to work - just would like official confirmation. Thanks!
