As tools are on their own release cycle and no longer a part of the server builds, a formal declaration of support including depreciation and backward compatibility for major release versions is required.

We intend to address the following questions:

• What versions of MongoDB Server should the version of the tool support?
• How long after the tool is released will it be patched and updated?
• What versions of the tools do we ship with the server in cases like the Linux distros?
