    Description

      Hello,

I am a SQL Server DBA and we are planning to migrate one of our database from sql server 2012 to MongoDB. I just started to look into MongoDB maual on mongodb.org. However the development is kind of hurrying the process to migrate the database. Before committing anything to dev team I would like to ask the experts a few questions about MongoDB.

Does MongoDB support differential backups and point in time restore?
Is it possible to migrate just a portion of database to MongoDB like tables with heavy inserts and reads (to collections in MongoDB) and let the smaller and less frequently used tables in SQLServer?
If the above is possible then how does backup and point in time restore work?
Is there a concept of locking in MongoDB?Can dirty reads be prevented(reading uncommitted data)?
Why should I move from SQL Server to MongoDB?is it due to performance?

      Experts I need your answers.

      Thanks a ton
