The evergreen file has many non-standalone tests which requires a non-standalone build to be built before running WiredTiger tests, this has produced a ton of duplicate code where we require the non-standalone version of the evergreen task. We can remove all of this duplication if we focus on creating variants that specifically test the non-standalone configuration instead. This would clean up the evergreen file immensely, and reduce confusion and code readablility. The work of this ticket is not small as we have quite a big amount of nonstandalone duplicate code.
