This ticket should investigate the interactions between WT_SESSION.create with the import field enabled and background compaction.
The bulk of the logic is in __wt_import_repair, with some also in schema_create.c.

Update:

• The issue seen in MDB is understood and can be reproduced in a WiredTiger test. The data corruption message is expected given the steps.
• The ticket is pending review to know whether a test should be created to cover that scenario.
