We used SWIG Version 1.3.40 to generate the Python API in the 1.0 release; that's almost 2 years out-of-date.
Michael, you've been doing the release building, should we upgrade?
The reason I noticed this was I asked the SWIG folks about the LICENSE, they replied:
We spent a long time a couple of years ago with free software solicitors to get the license
sorted out. The license in swig-1.3.x, which you appear to be using, was not very clear,
and the new improved license applies from 2.0.0 onwards. Please take a look at the new
version as swig-1.3.x is no longer maintained.
So we need to check the license when we upgrade. (I'm sure it's fine, but hopefully it's more explicit).
