The documentation isn't per release, that is, if you look at the README in the distribution, it points you to the top-level release documentation, which may or may not be correct for that particular distribution.

Customers may run older versions of WiredTiger, so I think it's useful to have older versions of the documentation on-line, and the README file should point to the right documentation tree.
