This ticket emerged from the question: "Are column groups being used by the server?"

Goals of this ticket:

1. Research and identify subsystems, features and areas in WiredTiger that currently don't have indicators of usage but where it could be useful to know whether and how they are being used (e.g. column groups).
2. Add FTDC counters and/or logs along with appropriate data collection rules to provide better visibility into their usage.

This information can help us identify unused or rarely used features that may be candidates for deprecation as well as better understand which features are used most frequently.
