Performance regression from logging changes

      Logging changes I'm referring to are those from WT-2031.

      The Jenkins automated testing jobs that include logging are showing a performance regression. For example:

      http://build.wiredtiger.com:8080/job/wiredtiger-perf-log-append/plot/

      It doesn't reproduce easily for me - if I run the same test on a c3.4xlarge I see equivalent performance.
