Applications are likely to notice a performance degradation when WiredTiger starts spilling content from cache to disk to satisfy transaction visibility requirements.

It would be worthwhile to add a verbose mode that enables logging messages when the lookaside file is used. Where possible the messages should be able to be tied to the operation that triggered the LAS usage.

A possible implementation would add a new verbose=[lookaside] option to wiredtiger_open.
