Time-boxed effort towards tuning the performance improvements. Once we have the many-dhandle-test running regularly, it will be useful to revisit the work done in milestone 1, and do any adjustment work that we could identify.

Scope:

• Create a branch before the checkpoint code was changed and use it on Jenkins.
• Add statistics whether checkpoints are used from cache or created from metadata in the new branch and in develop.
