When DRIVERS-1943 (https://github.com/mongodb/specifications/pull/1098) is approved, it will contain specification tests that must be implemented. We implemented the functionality specified by DRIVERS-1943 in JAVA-4390 in order to release it in 4.4.0 before DRIVERS-1943 is approved. We decided that this is fine because the API part of the DRIVERS-1943 was approved by all reviewers, and the only thing that is not done/approved is specification tests.
