Backport 1.1.0 documentation to v1.0 branch

      Once the 1.1.0 documentation is finalized, we should backport it to the v1.0 branch (removing any 1.1.0-specific documentation in the process). This will allow 1.0.0 documentation to be browsed independently on the manual site.
