I would like to use the rust driver with https://github.com/actix/actix-web. To do so the idiomatic way would be to use actix_web::web::Data to pass application data to routes. (I guess, at least in the examples for http://diesel.rs/ it is done this way)

But from reading the doc I have no idea how to this for the mongo driver. 

It would be good when such uses cases are documented.
