WHATWG has defined a standard for a global console object, and well-defined rules around how it prints values to stdout. The test runner should conform to this standard not only for the developer productivity win of a logger that "just works", but also because conforming to the standard opens the doors for integration with external modules (such as the mochajs test runner).
