there's no error message if the configuration strings are wrong

      We're just returning WT_NOTFOUND up the call stack if a configuration string is wrong, which means we get a generate error message "item not found" at the top-level if the app specified the wrong configuration strings.

      We need real error messages if a configuration string is wrong, at least listing the configuration string that's being rejected.
