WiredTiger currently uses macros to define the URIs for the history store (file:WiredTigerHS.wt) and metadata (file:WiredTiger.wt). For interoperability with tiered storage it would be convenient to represent these as table: URIs instead of file: URIs. This would let WT store them either as conventional file-based objects or as tiered objects in tiered configurations.

This ticket will investigate the feasibility of making this change. I.e., what else needs to change if we redefine those URI macros.
